Marbled Tape Nails

Hi dear readers !

A few weeks ago, the talented Lucy at Lucy's Stash showed a great and creative way to use crackle polish along with a tape manicure. You can check her manicure and tutorial here.

Some might consider that crackle polishes are out of trend, honestly I don't care about the trends and seasons, but maybe I'm a little bored by crackles and it's true that I haven't use them for a while now. So her idea made me want to get them out of their drawers and give them a second life :)

 

I started with Claire's Peaceful/Confident as the base. As this is a mood polish, I hoped it would add a subtle gradient to the whole stuff, but after applying it I noticed it doesn't change color anymore. I tried very hot and very cold water with no results, that's too bad ! I read on the web that some people had the same issues with "old" bottles of mood polishes, well mine are not that old but I guess the effect isn't supposed to last forever :( Anyway, the teal base was still pretty :)
Then I applied one coat of China Glaze Lightning Bolt from their Crackle collection. I topped it with a coat of Seche Vite.
When everything was dry, I taped my nails with striping tape and covered everything in black (Essence Fatal). I removed the tape, added another coat of Seche Vite and it was done :)

I really love that look ! Mine didn't come with the same marbled effect than Lucy's, but every crackle polish doesn't have the same effect.
I might try different color combos as I collected a lot of crackle colors in 2011 ^^

Il y a quelques semaines, la talentueuse Lucy de Lucy's Stash montrait une chouette idée pour recycler ses vernis craquelés, en les combinant à une tape manicure. Vous pouvez voir le rendu et un tuto ici.

Certaines considèrent que la mode du vernis craquelé est complètement passée, personnellement je me moque un peu des modes et des saisons mais je dois dire que je me suis un peu lassée des crackles et je n'ai plus utilisé les miens pendant longtemps. Son idée m'a vraiment donné envie de les ressortir et de leur donner une seconde vie :)

J'ai démarré avec deux couches de Claire's Peaceful/Confident en base. Vu que c'est un vernis "mood", j’espérais ajouter un dégradé subtil à l'ensemble, mais dès l'application j'ai remarqué qu'il ne changeait plus de couleur. J'ai testé l'eau très froid et très chaude sur mes ongles sans résultat, trop nul !! J'ai lu sur le net que d'autres personnes avaient rencontré ce problème, apparemment les vernis mood de Claire's n'ont pas une durée de vie énorme :/ Ceci dit, le turquoise de base est déjà très joli, ce vernis n'est pas encore bon pour la poubelle ;)

Ensuite j'ai appliqué une couche de China Glaze Lightning Bolt, le blanc de leur collection Crackle. J'ai ajouté une couche de Seche Vite et attendu que tout soit bien sec.
Enfin, j'ai fait mes motifs au striping tape, recouvert le tout de noir (Essence Fatal), enlevé le tape et top coaté le tout. Et voilà :)

J'aime beaucoup le résultat ! Sur moi, ça n'a pas fait le même effet marbré que chez Lucy, mais tous les crackles réagissent différemment.
Vu que j'ai stocké pas mal de couleurs de crackles en 2001, je pense tester quelques autres combinaisons ^^

Claire's Daring/Innocent

I hope you're fine ! I'm preparing some planned posts from now because next weekend is my wedding, and after that I'll be in Spain for 2 weeks (if you have good addresses for nail shopping, please comment ... :D ), so this week you'll still have some "real-time" posts but most of them will be planned (which also means I won't be there to answer your comments)

Last year, I asked some help on this blog, I was dreaming to find the five first Mood Polish by Claire's and thanks to LacquerMuse I got them all :) I wore them all but never had time to take pictures, so I finally did as i was wearing Daring/Innocent last week.

If you don't know what a mood polish is, it's a polish that changes color depending on the warm or cold temperature. The funny thing is the way it looks like a french manicure if you have not too short nails. Daring is the cold side of this polish, a light grey creme, and Innocent is obviously the warm side, which is a kind of beige with a lot of orange in it and a touch of yellow. That made me think I wouldn't like it (you know how much I hate yellow) but in fact, I liked it a lot, it was a good surprise :)

It was a very cold day and that Mood didn't want to show the "french manicure effect", so I played with water to show it's colors better ... Get ready for some picture spam !

It's easy to wear, not too bright or flashy but original.

The next day, I decided to add some Claire's glitter I just bought. In Belgium, Claire's polish don't have a name so I don't know which this one is, but it has a clear base with tiny holo glitter and blue/pink haxagon glitter in it. Very cute, I'll sure use this again for layering :)

In these last pics you can see the french manicure effect, that's how it looks usually (at least when your hands are not frozen by the weather), isn't it funny ?

Claire's 3 in 1 Nail Polish

Today I have apolish that I was very curious about when I saw it in the shop: Claire's 3 in 1 polish !
This one comes in a bottle with 3 different layers: very light lavender, purple and dark purple. There are other combos at Claire's but I chose the less eccentric for a first try, you can get them in whit/blue/red, green/yellow/blue ...

First, I didn't really know how to use that thing. It was said on the bottle not to shake it, at least that point was okay for me (well, why would I buy something layered if it needed to be shaken in one colour ? :p )
So, I just dipped the brush and apply ... Here's the result !

So, the result is a very light lavender base with some purple strokes. While I was making some tests to find the best way to apply it, I found that you get more strokes if you bend the bottle a bit when dipping the brush. Doing that, you avoid to screw the cap on the bottle each time you need some darker shade.

It needed two coats to be totally opaque. As the only interest of this polish is the strokes, I'd advise you to use a random white or light lavender polish as a base before using that Claire's :)

So, what to think about that ?
- It's fun to use. Not easy to apply, but funny ^^
- It need a little practise to have a nice result
- It's not really spectacular (at least with this combo), from far it just looks like a lavender polish.

I want to try another shade of this collection, just to know if it blends as much as this one :) Perhaps the black/fushia ... I'll let you know when I try it ;)

OPI Done Out in Deco + Claire's pink polish

I'm sorry I didn't have time to visit your blogs this weekend, but I have a good reason: it was my best friend's wedding and we celebrated it all the day yesterday ... So we were a bit tired today, lol ^^
Now I'm visiting your blogs to see what I missed last days ...
On to the polish, some weeks ago I showed you a polish which I'm not so in love with, Claire's light pink with silver glitters (sorry, as I alrady told you, Claire's doesn't put names on their polishes here). It was pretty but really too sheer for me, so I decided to layer it over my OPI Done Out in Deco I showed you wednesday:

Désolée de n'avoir pu visiter et commenter vos blogs ce weekend, mais j'ai une bonne excuse ! C'était le mariage de mon meilleur ami et nous avons fait la fête toute la journée d'hier ! Du coup, j'étais un peu fatiguée aujourd'hui, lol ;)
Mais venons-en au vernis ! Il y a quelques semaines, je vous avais montré un vernis qui n'a pas vraiment été un coup de coeur, le rose clair pailleté de Claire's ... il était joli, mais beaucoup trop transparent à mon goût ! J'ai donc décidé de l'utiliser en layering par-dessus l'OPI Done Out in Deco que je vous ai montré mercredi:

I loved the result, it was very shiny and cute. The only problem I had is the Claire's polish thickness, it was very long to dry even with my quick dry drops and I had some bumps on my nails.
Anyway, I liked the effect and I'll do this again when I'm bored of a manicure and don't want to remove it all :)

J'ai bien aimé le résultat, brillant et joli. Le seul problème était que le vernis Claire's est un peu épais, ça a mis pas mal de temps à sécher, même avec des gouttes "quick dry", et j'ai eu quelques marques sur les ongles.
Ceci dit, j'ai bien aimé le rendu et je recommencerai quand j'en aurai marre d'une manucure sans vouloir tout enlever :)

Claire's - Pink polish with silver shimmer

Désolée pour l'absence de messages cette semaine ... Je n'ai pas eu une minute pour poster ici ^^
Le vernis que je vous présente aujourd'hui vient de chez Claire's et est loin d'être un de mes préférés :(
Comme ici, il n'y a pas d'étiquettes sur les vernis de chez Claire's, je ne connais pas son nom, ni même un numéro ... C'est donc un rose irisé avec de fines paillettes argentées, très transparent.

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, it seems I didn't have a minute to post a message here ...

The polish I'll show you today comes from Claire's and is far to be one of my favorites :(

Well, first you have to know that here in Belgium, there are no labels on Claire's polishes, no name nor number ... It's a pink with shimmer and thin silver glitters, very sheer ... If someone knows its name, please leave a comment ^^

La première chose que je n'ai pas aimée, c'est sa transparence. Je ne suis pas du tout fan de ce genre de vernis, mais le bon côté des choses c'est que je peux l'utiliser par dessus un autre vernis opaque.
Le second soucis vient du temps de séchage, infiniment long ! Et comme j'ai mis 3 couches pour avoir ce résultat, j'ai attendu et abusé d'accélérateur de séchage China Glaze. Malgré tout, j'ai réussi à faire des coups dedans après une heure de "séchage" ><

The first thing I didn't like about this polish was that it's very clear. I'm not a hudge fan of sheer polishes, but at least I can still use this for layering over an opaque base. 

The second problem is the very long drying time ! And as I put 3 coats to have this result, I waited a long time and abused of China Glaze Quick Dry. And after one hour, I was still able to make bumps and marks in it ><

En conclusion, je dirais qu'il est intéressant si vous aimez les vernis transparents, un style discret mais brillant avec une seule couche, ou le layering. Pour ma part je choisirai cette dernière option :)

To draw a conclusion, I'd say this polish is interesting if you like sheers, if you want a discreet but shiny style with one coat, or for layering. I'll choose that third option for my nails ;)

Claire's Gold Cream with Star Glitters

Comme promis, voici les photos du Crème/Or d'hier avec un top coat pailleté :)
Il s'agit d'un  vernis Claire's également, un transparent avec des paillettes holographiques différentes: petites, hexagonales et en forme d'étoiles !
L'application est aléatoire ... J'ai eu énormément de paillettes sur certains ongles, très peu sur d'autres, parfois pas d'étoiles ... Il faut parfois plusieurs couches si on veut un résultat uniforme, et vu l'épaisseur du vernis de base, ça ne facilite pas le séchage ...
Mais c'est un joli top coat sympa et fun à porter :)

As I promised, here are pics of yesterday Cream/Gold polish wit a glitter top coat :)

It comes from Claire's and contains different size and shapes of holographic glitters: small ones, big hexagoal one and star shaped glitters !

Application is random ... I had loads of glitters on some nails, very small amounts on other nails and some without any star shaped ones ... If you want a regular application, you'll sometimes need two or three coats, which makes it more difficult to dry. 

Anymay, it's a cute top coat, funny and nice to wear :)

 

Sur le gros plan du pouce, vous pouvez voir les particules dorées du vernis de base :) Il y a deux couches de paillettes sur chaque ongle ...

Claire's Cream with Gold Shimmer

Le mois passé, je vous avais montre quelques achats dont un vernis Claire's blanc crème avec des reflets dorés. Je n'ai pas le nom exact car mes vernis Claire's n'ont pas d'étiquettes, mais il est facilement reconnaissable en boutique et j'ai craqué dessus ^^

Le voici enfin sur mes ongles ... Il n'est pas très couvrant et un peu épais: vous voyez ici 3 couches, ce qui a rendu le séchage un peu difficile. Ca reste néanmoins une très jolie couleur très discrète, à utiliser seule, agrémentée de paillettes ou en base de french, pourquoi pas ^^

Last month, I showed you a haul with a polish from Claire's, a creme white with golden shimmer. I don't have its exact name, none of my Claire's polish have a label, but you can recognize its color easily in shops. I loved this a lot ^^

Finally, here it is on my nails ... It's not completely opaque and a little thick: I applied 3 coats here, and it made the polish dry slowly. But it's still a nice color, very discreet, and you can leave it alone, add glitters or, why not, as a base for a french mani ^^

Les reflets dorés ne sont pas très visible, mais demain je mettrai d'autres photos de ce même vernis, agrémenté de paillettes ;)

Claire's Haul & Guest Nails

J'espère que vous allez bien ^^
Il y a deux semaines, j'ai fait un petit tour en ville et je suis passée chez Claire's ! Je voulais un joli vernis blanc crème aux reflets dorés que j'avais vu chez Sheinya, et je l'ai trouvé :D
Bien sûr, je ne me suis pas arrêtée la ... J'y ai pris un vernis a paillettes holographiques; il y en a des petites, des grosses et des étoilées ^^ J'ai également pris un petit kit de 3 liners, des paillettes qui ont, je trouve, de très jolies teintes, et une pochette de stickers.
J'ai aussi craqué sur des Lipsmackers ! J'adore ces petits baumes à lèvres, ils sont parfumés aux goûts des boissons Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta ...

Two weeks ago, I went to town and made some shopping at Claire's ! I wanted a pretty cream white with gold glitters I saw on Sheinya's blog, and I found it :D
Of course, I didn't stop my shopping with that ... I chose a clear polish with holo glitters; there are big and small one, and star shaped glitters ^^ I also took a 3 liner kit, some glitters with colors I love and stickers.
And I also took a pack of Lipsmackers ! I'm a huge fan of these swee little things ... Mine have Coca Cola's products tastes, like Fanta, Sprite, Cherry Coke ...

Comme vous pouvez le voir sur la photo, j'ai aussi trouvé quelques produits Essence (chez Kruidvats): des stickers, un correcteur de vernis qui sent la cerise, de l'huile pour cuticules et un vernis durcisseur. J'ai eu l'occasion de les tester et je trouve que ce sont de bons produits a petit prix ! Je ferai une review bientôt ;)

As you can see in the picture, I also found some Essence products (at Kruidvats): stickers, a cherry scented polish corrector pencil, cuticle oil and a nail hardener. I already tried them and I think these are good products, at cheap price. I'll make some reviews soon ;)

Avant de vous quitter, je vous propose de voir le vernis que j'ai posé sur une amie pour son réveillon de Noel. Eh oui, ça date, mais je suis un peu en retard dans mes billets ^^'

Je n'avais jamais posé de vernis sur d'autres ongles que les miens avant, ce fut donc une grande première pour moi lol ^^

Je lui ai laissé le choix parmi mes vernis, elle voulait quelque chose de très "bling-bling", on a donc décidé de mettre deux couches de China Glaze OMG en base et des paillettes holographiques Wet'n'Wild Kaleidoscope en top coat. J'ai aussi ajouté un petit strass argenté sur chaque ongle.

Le Wet'n'Wild Kaleidoscope est un très beau vernis pailleté. Il faut que je le swatche sur d'autres couleurs pour vous le montrer ^^ Il était très difficile de prendre des photos avec tous ces reflets, par contre :( 

Before I leave you, I'd like to show you the nails I've done for a friend's Christmas Eve. Yeah, it's been a long time, but I told you I'm a little late with my posts ^^'

I never applied polish on other people's nails before, this was my really first time lol ^^

I let her choose in my polish collection. She wanted something "bling-bling", very sparkly, so we chose to apply two coats of China Glaze OMG and use Wet'n'Wild Kaleidoscope as top coat. I also added silver rhinestones on each nails.

Wet'n'Wild Kaleidoscope is a very gorgeous glitter polish, I have to watch it over other colors to show it to you ^^ Sadly, all those reflects were very difficult to take on picture :(

Sephora Cassis & Claire's Glitters

Meilleurs vœux pour 2010 ^^ J'espère que vous avez passé de bonnes fêtes en cette occasion ...

Pour débuter cette année, je vous propose un petit swatch d'un vernis que j'aime beaucoup: le Cassis de Sephora.
La couleur est très jolie, un beau mauve profond que les photos ne mettent pas en valeur :(
L'application est plutôt difficile du fait de la taille du pinceau, mais le rendu laqué est très joli.

To begin the year, I'll show you some pics of a polish I love: Cassis by Sephora.
The shade is very beautiful, a pretty deep purple but the pics don't show it at his best :(
Application is a bit hard because the brush is small, but the lacquered render is gorgeous.

 

 

 

J'ai également eu envie de tester un de mes achats de chez Claire's, le vernis à paillettes bleues et violettes. Le rendu était superbe, très scintillant, mais difficile de montrer les paillettes en photo ! 

Then I wanted to try one of my new Claire's polishes, the one with blue and purple glitters. I love the result, very sparkly, but once again it is difficult to show glitters in a pic.

Par contre, le lendemain, le résultat était catastrophique ! Le vernis s'est écaillé sur tous mes ongles en l'espace de quelques heures :s

J'ai porté Cassis plusieurs fois et je n'ai jamais eu ce problème. Et vous ? Connaissez vous des vernis capricieux ?

I've wear Cassis some times before and never had this problem. What about you ? Do you know some capricious polishes ?

A haul and a big gift

J'espère que vous allez bien ^^
En navigant sur vos blogs, j'ai découvert les magasins Claire's et leurs vernis, et j'ai flashé sur certains d'entre eux. Comme je ne suis pas très accro au shopping, j'étais loin de me douter qu'il y avait un de ces magasins dans ma propre ville !
Mais je me suis bien rattrapée et j'ai acheté 4 jolis vernis pour les tester ... Les voici !

While surfing on your blogs, I discovered Claire's shops and their nail polishes, and I fell in love with some colors. As I'm not a hudge fan of shopping, I didn't know there was such a shop in my own town !
So I chose 4 pretty colors to try them on ... Here they are !

Deux pailletés, et deux irisés. Par contre, je n'ai pas leurs noms. Leur prix tout doux: 2.50€ chaque :)

Two glittered and two shimmered. i just don't have their names. The price is sweet: 2.50€ each :)

J'ai aussi reçu un joli cadeau ! Une amie m'a donné une grosse partie de sa collection de vernis ! Me voilà donc riche de 25 flacons supplémentaires ... Plein de swatches et de tests en perspectives ! Pour vous faire patienter, j'en ai swatché une partie sur des roues. Vous pouvez y découvrir des Mavala, des Sephora, et les 4 sans noms sont ceux de Claire's ;) (désolée pour le fond des photos T_T )

I also received a great gift ! A friend of mine gave me almost all of her polishes ! I have 25 polishes more ... That will make a lot of swatches and tests ! I already swatched some of them on nail wheels. You can see here some Mavala and Sephora polishes. Those without names are the Claire's ones ;) (sorry for the background T_T )
