Diva of Geneva inverted French mani

Hi dear readers :)

I've wanted to try the reverted french manicure for a while. I finally did this some weeks ago and liked how it turned, especially thanks to OPI's Diva of Geneva, which is such a great shade !
Diva of Geneva is a dark shimmery plum with gold sparkles in it. Gorgeous ! I really need to use this as a full manicure <3

For the inverted french, here's how I proceeded. I didn't have reinforcement labels at home, so I cut some blue tape in a smile shape, with the help of a bottle of polish to draw the curve.
I applied a base coat, then stuck the curved tape over the half-moon part of the nails and painted the rest with Diva of Geneva.
I applied some silver glitters to hide the demarcation (Essence Nail Art Tip Painter in Silver Sparkle) and added some rhinestones on the ring finger to create an accent.

I think the rhinestones were too much ... I'd prefer this manicure without them, or with smaller stones.
I also think the "smile" isn't round enough. I still like it but I'd like to try it more curved. I need to get some reinforcement labels for sure :p

What do you think ? Would you give ethis look a try ?

For the funny fact, I hadn't any idea of the english name for the reinforcement labels. I had to browse an office supplies webstore until I found them :p (If you want to know, in french we call these "oeillet", which can mean eyelet or even carnation)

OPI Diva of Geneva is from the Swiss Collection (fall 2010) and is still available on NaildeRoyale.

Pink Wednesday: Milani Digital & Konad

Hi sweeties :)

I've always wanted a pink holo polish in my stash. My dream pink holo would be QT or BFF from China Glaze's OMG collection, but they're sooo expensive on Ebay :( I'm trying to get some Spectraflair pigment and make my own dream pink holo <3

But when I made my first order at Cherry Culture, I couldn't resist to get that cute Milani from their 3D collection, Digital !
Digital is a light pink scattered holo. I know that some people prefer linear holos, but I like the two styles the same :)
The base is a very soft, sweet shade of pink. I had to use three coats for a perfect coverage, but it dries fast so it didn't bother me.

The first two pics are take inside under artificial light, Digital looks like a brighter pink under full sun.

I wanted to add a little something to that polish. I'm still trying to improve my tape manicure technique but I have some more lessons to take lol :)

First I stamped my nails with black Konad polish and a pattern from Konad plate m64, added a coat of Seche Vite to protect the design and added a black french manicure with tape.
The polish I used for the french was Essence Berlin Story but it's definitely too thick for the tape technique and I can't get a smooth, straight line. It also made my tips bumpy 'cause of the thickness, not so pretty.

Oh, and apologize my Konad skills, I also need some training because it seems all my designs are stamped partially T_T

Anyway, I liked the idea and will try again. I like how my index finger looks here, I think it's the one I managed to do the best.

What's your advice ? :)

Geometrical French

Hi dear readers !

It's time for another french manicure ! You know how much I love them, I wish I had a little more time to make more :)
This one was inspired by a friend who has her nails done with gel, and got this design. I really loved it and needed to give it a try ^^

I used China Glaze Tinsel, one of my favorite silver glitter polish <3
The black one is Essence Fatal and the white is a tip painter, from Essence too.

I'm really, really sorry for the cat  hair in those pics ... They stuck on my nails when I used a cuticle oil and I didn't see them until I saw the pics ><

How I did this design ?

First, I used a whitening base (Catrice).
I painted my tips with Tinsel from the tip to the nail bed, with a very small amount of polish on the brush. That make the gradient effect. I wouldn't use this technique with a plain polish, but with glitters it works well and takes less time than classic sponging.
Then I made the triangles; I started with the borders, drawn with a thin nail art brush, then I filled the spaces.
Finally, I drawed some lines with the white tip painter: first the triangle borders, and the middle lines to finish ...

That's all !
The most difficult thing is to draw straight lines with the thin brush. If you really can't make the triangle, you could use some tape to help you drawing them ! I think I'll make my next geometrical design with tape ;)

Thanks for watching and commenting ...

Have a nice day :D

Dark Blue Sponge Gradient

Hi dear readers !
It's been a long time since I posted some sponge gradient here ... You know how much I love them ^^
You may have seen this mani on one of my quick NOTD but the iPhone pic really had a poor quality.
So here it is again, a bit better this time :)

I started by applying a whitening base coat (Catrice Nail Whitener), I really love that base for that kind of mani. It gives my nails a natural soft pink tone.
Then I sponged one of my oldies polish, Revlon Midnight, allowed it to dry and sponged again with OPI Absolutely Alice to add some bling :)
I finished with some stars and round crystal rhinestones and a thick coat of Poshe top coat :)

Some words about my Revlon Midnight: I have this polish for at least 10 years, if not 15, and it's still in a good state ! Now I think it's discontinued, I don't even know if Revlon still makes StreetWear polish :p
It's a pretty dark metallic blue, a pretty shade but a bit classical. If you like it, you might find a dupe easily (I know that Catrice, China Glaze, Sally Hansen and OPI have similar shades)

I have a dozen of oldies like this one: L'Oréal, Revlon, Dior, Maybelline ... I can make some swatches if you're interested ;)

Did you like that blue sponging ? :)

Have a nice weekend :)

Dotted French

Hi dear readers !
I hope your weekend was fine. Mine was a bit busy like the whole week, but it's getting better :)

Today I'll show you a design I made on my nails last month (you'll see snow in the pics, but there's no more now ^^)
It's a classical dotted french mani, I've seen this many times on other blogs but didn't try it ... Now it's done :D

I used Blue my Mind by H&M for the french, and a white polish from H&M's summer pack for the dots.

Easy to make, but hard to get in picture, that blue isn't so flashy in real life :)

Wanna try this ? It's easy :)

Put a base polish. I use a clear nail whitener but you can use any pink or beige french base.
Apply your french in one or two coats, as needed. I used a thin paintbrush 'cause I prefer it to the polish brush, it's too thick for me to make a french line.
Draw a thin line, I used a silver liner from Stripe Rite*.
When the french is well dried, make white dots with a dotting tool.
You can also add a little bow (I used a Peggy Sage sticker) or a Konad design from your choice :)
Add top coat (Catrice Quick Dry High Shine for me) and you're done ! :D

Do you like it ?

*I bought my Stripe Rite liner in a Belgian beauty store some months ago. I paid 13€ (17$) for it, which is a "normal" price in our stores. I just discovered they were sold for around 3€ (4$) at Sally's ! I wanna go to the USA !!! :p

Bubble French Manicure

Hi dear readers :)
You know I love to change my blog layout depending on the seasons or my mood, so here's the new one ! I hope you'll like it :)

On with today's polish, here's a nail art I made some weeks ago :)
It's a classical french twisted with some black and turquoise "bubbles". I also added some blue pearls but I should have left it alone, that's what I disliked in this mani.

Please don't mind the shape of my index finger, I broke it some days before I did the mani :(

How I did this mani ?

What you'll need: dotting tools with different sizes. Mine look like these; two contrasting polishes: I used Essence Fatal and China Glaze For Audrey.

1. Apply a base coat. I use a nail whitener by Catrice that leaves my nails with a clean look.
2. Make a classical french manicure on the tips. I used my Yves Rocher white for french, as usual.
3. With the large dotting tool, make some spots with the darker color. Let it dry.
4. With a smaller dotting tool and the clearer polish, make some spots on the dark one, and some spots outside.
5. Apply a top coat, and you're done :)

It's easy, isn't it ?
Do you like this style ?

Viva la Nails stickers review

Hi dear readers !
Today, I won't show you a random polish from my stash but some stickers I received from Viva la Nails !
As you may know, if you own a blog about nail polish and want to review some of their products, you can order a free samples package from Viva la Nails website !
That's what I did some months ago and I quickly received my pack, full of stickers, water decals, rhinestones, crushed shells and glitters !

I used some floral stickers in august, and that was the manicure I wore at the interview for the job I got know lol ^^

Hello chers lecteurs !

These pics are not very good as they were taken inside :( I made a simple french with my usual Yves Rocher polish covered with China Glaze Innocence, then I applied VLN stickers. They were very easy to remove from their sheet and apply on nails.

Then I topped all with a glitter top coat from Essence. That's simple and elegant, isn't it ?

The stickers stayed well on my nails, they were still perfect when the polish started to peel.
The silver parts are so shiny, they look like small rhinestones !
Well, that was my first try with VLN products and I'm quite happy with them. I can't wait to ry other products, when I have a bit more time :)
Did you try their products ?

French with gradient & Tutorial

Hi dear readers !
Today I'd like to share a quick tutorial I made ... This is my very first one ! I don't think the design I'll show you is very exclusive and original, but if it can help some of you with gradients, I'll be happy :)

For this design, I decided to make the gradient from the nail bed to the tip. I could have make my french in purple the sponge with white but it wouldn't have done the same result ... So lets go !

Hello chers lecteurs !

Alors allons-y !

What you'll need / matériel nécessaire:
- Base coat
- White polish for french tips / vernis blanc pour french
- Any contrasting color / une couleur contrastante (Hema Neon 74)
- Top coat

First, make a french mani as usual.

Commencez par une french traditionnelle.

Apply the french guide on your tips, leave a drop of pruple polish in the plate, and apply it on the tips with the sponge, from the guide to the center.

Let dry and remove the guide, here's the result ! Because of the guide, we have some blank spots. We'll correct this in the next step ^^

Take a small amount of polish with the brush and tap it on the blank spots. Do not try to draw a line, I think the result is more naturel if you just tap the brush :)

Here's the final result ! Now decorate it with stickers, Konad or what you want, or just leave alone with a top coat :)

Stickers Essence, glitter top coat Essence

Well, my pics are not excellent but I was alone to take them step by step lol ^^ I hope you like my gradient, and I hope my pics will help ! :)

Summer Flower Manicure

Hi dear readers :)
First of all, I want to thank you for all your nice messages. I didn't have the time to answer all comments yet, but that will come.

Well, today it's supposed to be Summer. I said supposed because here, in Belgium, it's cold and rainy :( I hope the weather is better where you live !
As an attempt to call the sun and good weather, I made this floral french mani ! I really had a lot of fun doing it :)

Hello chers lecteurs :)

I started by a classical french mani with my usual Yves Rocher for white tips, then I topped my nails with one coat of China Glaze Innocence. It's very sheer and gives nails a soft pink shade.
I took multi-colored dried flowers (found on Ebay), put a thin coat of Seche Vite and applied the flowers on it. Then I tapped the flowers gently with an orange stick to flatten them on my nails.
Finally, I added some matching rhinestones and pearls and covered all with a thick coat of Seche Vite.
That's all :)

I've noticed that the Seche Vite tends to peel on my french mani's. I love this magical top coat but I won't use it anymore for french mani's !

What do you think ? Do you like that colored look ? Have you ever try dried flowers on nails ?
Thanks for looking, have a nice day :)

Hi all :)
First of all, I'd like to thank you all ! I've reached the 50+ readers some days ago and that makes me really happy ! When I started this blog, I didn't know if it would be successfull ... Thanks all for your fidelity !
As it is usual on blogs, I prepare my first giveaway for the day I'll reach 100+ readers ... Stay tuned for more !

As I promised, here is the next polish Cina Glaze sent me for review. You certainly have already seen Emerald Sparkle, a wonderful deep green with tons of glitters... I'm not a green person, but I fell in love with this polish as soon as I saw it on other blogs ! I haven't tried it as a full mani yet, I made a diagonal french with black lines and green rhinestones. Do you like it ?

I started by painting my tips in white as for a classical french mani, then I put Emerald Sparkle with a diagonal shape (2 coats). As it was very easy to apply, I didn't have any difficulty to make a straight line !
Then I use Claire's black liner to underline the green polish. The line is a little thick as it was the first time I used this line, I think I need some more training ^^
Finally, I added some green rhinestones and a coat of Seche Vite. The held of this mani was very good, Emrerald Sparkle had no chip at all when the rhinestones and the white sides began to go off my nails :p

Next time, I'll show you Sci-Fi applied alone, then "Konaded". Later, I'll make some reviews of Orly polishes (frome the Bloom and Sweet collections), some nail arts ... I hope you'll enjoy these !
Have a nice week :)

French Mani with Silver Sparkle & Stickers

Hello :)

Hi all :)
I hope you spent a great weekend and it's not too difficult to go back to work or school ^^
Here's a french mani I loved to wear. I think it was discreet but also sparkling. There's just a little problem with it ! I wanted to use the same base as for my first french mani, Lait de Rose by Agnès B., but my bottle of Agnès B. mauve Soft looks slightly the same, and when I sam my mistake, it was too late T_T
Unlike Lait de Rose, Mauve Soft leaves some brush strikes and is more white. It was not flagrant, but I didn't like the result as much as the first one.

I applied my french mani with Le Blanc by Yves Rocher, then one coat of Agnès B. Mauve Soft. I covered the french mani with a wonderful glittered polish, Tinsel by China Glaze (one coat) and I made a line with a silver liner (no brand). Finally, I put some Essence stickers :)
What do you think ? You like it or no ? Thanks for your visit :)

My Valentine Nails

Hello chers lecteurs :)

Hi dear readers !

I hope you had a nice Valentine's day !
I didn't plan on making a Valentine manicure (I don't really like heart patterns) but while shopping at my nail art supply retailer, I saw a box with multi-colored and multi-shaped rhinestones. Those cute small red hearts were in it ^^ (the other rhinestones are great, too !)

First, I made a classic french mani with a white liner, then I applied Mavala Maui over it. Maui is a pale pink with blue and pink shimmers. It stays translucid when applied alone, but it makes great effetcs over another pale color.
Then, I made a sponge gradient with the gorgeous China Glaze Ruby Pumps. This time, I used a kitchen sponge instead of the make up one, and I think it worked better and the gradient was more simple to create. I don't have a big experience in nails sponging, but I think Ruby Pumps is perfect for that technique, it applys well and keeps all it's shine.
I finished by applying red heart shaped, silver heart and round shaped rhinestones, and a coat of Seche Vite ^^

The shimmer in the Mavala are best seen in the two last pics, taken with flash ^^
What do you think of this mani ? :)

Passez une bonne semaine :)
Have a nice week :)

French with sponge

Hello :)

I hope you had a nice weekend !
There's a style I really love when I visit blogs and galleries, it's effects made with a sponge ! Konad solds a kit with a special nail art sponge and some polishes (the same as the stamping ones) but I read that it was possible to make with make up or kitchen sponge, so tried it on ^^

Here's how I proceeded ... First, I applied a base coat (a ridgefiller from Kruidvat, with some shimmers in it), then I stamped half of my nails with Konad's white polish. Once it was dry, I stamped the tips with the wonderful Strawberry Fields from China Glaze (I'll made a full swatch soon ^^)
To finish this look, I stamped a pattern from Konad image plate m39, added some pink rhinestones and put a top coat (my clear Maybelline polish)
Isn't it easy ?

The only problem I had, was that the white bas wasn't thick enough. Next time, I'll make a french mani with my base color to avoid transparency. I kept this mani for 5 days and it was still in good condition ^^

A bientôt ! :D

What about you ? Have you ever tried to apply polish with a sponge ? Do you want to try it, or isn't it your fave style ?
Here's a video of application with Konad sponges: click ^^
See you soon ! :D
